Our route for Day #1 |
On the first day of our travel, we drove 358 miles from Simsbury, Connecticut to Washington, D.C. If you include our starting point of Connecticut, we were in five different states in one day! That is 5/50th of the states in our country.

State # 2 - New York

State #3 - New Jersey |

State #5 - Maryland |

State #4 - Delaware |
By the time we arrived in Washington, it was fairly late. We also knew that there would be a long car drive the next day, so we couldn't spend too much time sightseeing. We did, however, make sure that we saw some things that were close to our hotel.

Yummy Chinese food in honor of Chinese New Year |
Did you know that our first day of travel was also Chinese New Year? Washington D.C. has a section of town called Chinatown. In order to recognize the Chinese New Year, we walked to Chinatown and picked up some Chinese food to take back to our hotel room for dinner. After dinner, my family and I walked to see some of the important sites near our hotel. In addition to the US Capitol Building (which we saw as we were driving to our hotel), we saw the Washington Monument, the White House and Black Lives Matter Plaza.

Outside the Washington Monument |
My mom told me that tourists used to be able to get much, much closer to some of these buildings, but recently large fences have been put in place for security. Despite the large fences, we got as close as we were allowed. It was really interesting to see so many of the buildings that have been on the news in recent months.

As we stood on Black Lives Matter Plaza, you could see the White House (behind us). |

The actual words on Black Lives Matter Plaza we so big that we couldn't get them in a picture. The letters stretched from one side of the street to the other, while the words spanned three city blocks! This is me, my sister and my mom at the very top of one of the Ts. |
